Sleeving
Sleeving folders for tubular and covered components.
The sleeving category
What a sleeving folder does.
A sleeving folder forms a tube from flat material, folding and closing it so the machine sews a covered, tubular component, a piped cover, a covered cord, or a tubular trim turned right side out after sewing. It is the folder for any part that has to end up as a sewn tube rather than a flat seam.
Sleeving folders are matched to the finished tube diameter and the material, and they close the tube consistently so the sewn seam runs straight down its length. Because a tube is sewn inside out and turned, an uneven fold shows as a spiral or a lumpy seam once the part is turned, so the fold has to hold true along the whole length.
Sleeving appears wherever a product needs a formed tubular component, so the folder is chosen for the tube and the material. Selecting one means matching the finished tube diameter and the fabric to the folder, whether the tube is turned after sewing, and the machine the folder feeds.
